Adam W. Shunk, PhD, HSPP, NCSP


Dr. Shunk is a licensed psychologist who specializes in developmental neuropsychology, sports psychology and concussion management. He received his BS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his graduate training in school psychology and developmental neuropsychology at Ball State University. He then completed his internship and post-doctorate residency at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital’s Neuroscience Institute, where he split his time training in neuropsychology and sport and performance psychology.

Prior to joining The Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center–Duluth, Dr. Shunk was employed at St. Vincent Sport Performance center where he provided clinical neuropsychology and sports psychology services for a wide range of clinical and athlete populations. He was also the consulting clinical neuropsychologist for the St. Vincent Sport Medicine Concussion Clinic and the Athlete Concussion Alliance throughout Indiana. He is a credentialed ImPACT consultant and member of the Sports Neuropsychology Society.

In addition to his role as a neuropsychologist, Dr. Shunk is also trained as a sports psychologist. From 2008 to 2013, Adam was the consulting sports psychologist for Purdue University’s athletic department. He has specialized training in clinical sport psychology and performance psychology for athletes at the amateur, collegiate, Olympic and professional levels of competition. Adam assists competitive athletes in everything from individual counseling services for clinical and mental health issues to performance enhancement and mental training skills that help athletes gain a competitive advantage.

Athletically, Adam competed professionally as a track and field athlete for Nike and was an NCAA and USA champion in the high jump.
